Mal Pais is one of the oldest towns in the Nicoya Peninsula. And the best part is— it hasn’t changed a bit. This town is pure, quiet, safe and astonishingly beautiful.

Mal Pais backs straight up to the Reserve of Cabo Blanco — a pristine and lush tropical forest. This thick and enchanting jungle has never been cut by man and is home to many wild animals. It is mountainous and holds a vast amount of plant species to be seen from the sea.

In the bay of Mal Pais you can expect very calm conditions in the morning and evening. We plan excursions with the mid to high tide. Animals are often seen here— sea turtles or if you are lucky the occasional whale.
